Rudolf May, Silvaner Retzstadter Himmelspfad GG 2025
Blanched almond, peach skin, sweet green herbs, and wildflowers on the nose. The palate is dense with extract, yet has a long, lingering mineral presence. Superb.

Retzstadt sits in a side valley of the Main, north of Würzburg. The Himmelspfad is a steep, south-facing Gewann of the greater Langenberg site. Only Himmelspfad is VDP.Große Lage; the rest of Langenberg is Erste Lage. Shell limestone. Producer tech sheet: 8 hours of skin maceration, spontaneous fermentation, aging in 1,200 L Stückfass.
Scored on a five-star scale, where a plus is a third of a star. How I score and what I disclose is set out in my ethics and disclosure policy. More notes are in the review index, and the regional background is in Wine in Germany.
