Kühling-Gillot, Riesling Nackenheim Erste Lage 2022

This is VDP.Aus Ersten Lagen, a designation used by VDP.Rheinhessen estates to indicate a blend of classified sites (in this case with Rotliegend (iron-rich sandstone and clayey slate) soil, similar to a Burgundy Premier Cru, which specifies the village but not a particular Premier Cru vineyard. Wild yeast fermented and aged in Stück and Doppelstück barrels on the fine lees. The nose carries ripe yellow citrus, stone fruit, and tropical notes of lemon, pineapple, and yellow peach. Savory herbs and curry spice carry from the nose to the palate, with a piercing, vibrant mineral impression that leaves lingering flavor and acidity. Superb.
